Psalm 133: Behold, how good and pleasant it is

when brothers [and sisters] dwell in unity!

It is like the precious oil on the head,

running down on the beard,

on the beard of Aaron,

running down on the collar of his robes!

 It is like the dew of Hermon,

which falls on the mountains of Zion!

For there the LORD has commanded the blessing,

Corollary to the Sovereignty of God

If your knowledge of doctrine does not make you a great man of prayer, you had better examine yourself again. —Martyn Lloyd-Jones

 

The natural, Biblical result of knowing the doctrine of the sovereignty of God is complete dependence on Him.  How do we show dependence on God?  By going before the throne of grace through Jesus Christ.  What are we saying about ourselves and God when we do not pray?  We are essentially saying,

1) I can handle this situation on my own.

2) I can't handle this on my own, but neither can God.

3) I can't handle this on my own; I believe that God can help, but He won't want to do anything.

 

All of which betray a lack of faith in God's sovereignty and goodness (I've pretty much said all the above myself, by the way!). So when we see God's character in the Word of God, it should not be a dry intellectual exercise; it should drive us to our knees.
