Several members of our family enjoy hiking and are looking forward to October's cooler autumn temperatures. I'm sure we'll soon be headed to a nearby mountain trail for a Saturday hiking excursion.
The part of the adventure I enjoy is gathering all my hiking paraphernalia together: a country magazine, my current cross-stitch and/or knitting project, a few pieces of chocolate, and a fleece blanket to keep warm.
And what do these items have to do with hiking you ask? Well, as you can guess, I've become a "hiking observer" -- one who waits patiently in the van for her gang to return. And I love it...really, I get a lot accomplished!
Here's a picture of Tom and me at Shenandoah Mountain a couple of falls ago. I'm smiling, but I think I'm saying on the inside, "Hey, y'all, this is my last hike...get me back to level ground!"
