As we wrote earlier, last Tuesday was a primary election here in Virginia, and Mom and I went prepared for the long, slow day. I had to come up with a good craft project to be working on as mostly I'm in the middle of sewing, and I couldn't exactly take my sewing machine to the polls. My current knitting project (that I haven't actually picked up in forever) is the second sock in a pair, and I knew I couldn't concentrate on such a complicated pattern.
I decided that I would have to start a brand new crochet blanket - they are really easy to work on once you get the pattern down. The only problem is that I already have three crocheted baby blankets in my hope chest, and I've made Hannah two as well. Hmm...who should I give this one to? Well, Jonathan consented to me making him one and requested light blue yarn. The pattern I'm using is an easy one that I've used before, and I got a decent amount done at the polls.

The election day projects I picked out to work on were: the Pandora Scarf that has been sitting for months in my bag never completed...on borrowed needles from my sister (shhh!) and a Ripple dishcloth that was already halfway knitted.
The Pandora Scarf pattern was an easy one (I thought), but once I looked at it I couldn't for the life of me understand "Kfb." I knew it meant "knit front and back." But I just couldn't figure out how to do it and ended up frogging (rip it, rip it) tons of rows because something just didn't look right.
Well, the scarf went back in my bag unfinished, and I pulled out the ripple dishcloth hoping I could figure out where I left off. Success! Here's a picture of the finished Ripple dishcloth on the left. Then I started knitting a Waffle Knit dishcloth, which I continued at Knit in Public Day this past Saturday. The ivory middle section is finished, and I've started the variegated yarn for the second half, as you can see on the right above.
Most of the folks at KIP Day were knitting socks, hats, handbags, even tulips to be attached to the handbags, or other projects much less simple than my little ol' dishcloth...
So, for those who asked, these are our recent crocheting and knitting projects. I think I like quilting better than knitting, and I'll show you what I'm quilting for tomorrow's post.

I love the knitting projects. The baby blanket looks so soft. I can just see it wrapped around a sweet little baby. My daughter knits baby blankets and then stores them to give as gifts. She usually makes a matching cap to go with each blanket.
Those dishcloths look great. It looks like you two spent your time well.

I am so glad I'm not the only person who has trouble with kfb! It just didn't make sense, and it surely didn't look right. I forget what I did, but I do know that I modified the pattern with another stitch.
Thanks for sharing all your projects. You have inspired me to start another dishcloth (but I will read the pattern first and make sure there are no kfb stitches!).

Those are great projects! :)
For pesky knitting problems, I rely on "The Knitting Answer Book". It is a small book that would easily fit into a workbasket/bag, and it has detailed instructions for every pattern variation. I've used that little book a lot - it was a great buy!
