A Plant Sale is like a Yard Sale--only better! I spotted the Plant Sale sign along the side of Route 11 a couple of weeks ago and pulled into the driveway. The owner's flower gardens were beautiful, and I could tell she really had a green thumb! She had divided her various plants and displayed them in nice containers along her driveway for any customers to peruse.
Here's a picture of a couple of the plants I brought home with me...the purchase doesn't include the plant on the far right. I'll explain that one shortly.
The two plants on the left are a variety that I have in my garden already, but they aren't blooming in RED--these are supposed to be a true red, so I bought them. You gardeners will recognize the leaves immediately. Do you know?
The plant in the middle? Here's a clue - it's not hollyhock. The lady told me she brought it down from Maine, and of course that made it more special. Don't you think so? Maine is so exotic-ly far away! Any guesses?
I was hoping there would be some lambs ears for sale. I had purchased one lambs ear plant at the Washington National Catheral Garden Shop a few years ago, but it became waterlogged and passed on. Wouldn't a day trip to DC to replace it be perfect? [Edited to add: I just googled the greenhouse and read that it has closed. But wouldn't a trip to DC still be fun?]
The plant on the right wasn't bought at the Plant Sale. MsGreen Thumb Jean in New York mailed me seeds for these. Can you guess what they are? I've planted several of these containers in various spots around the garden this spring in hopes that some will feel just at home in Virginia as they did in New York so I will have a crop of my own!
Okay, leave a comment if you know the names of all three of these plants. I'll give answers tomorrow in Tuesday's post.

I think the one on the left is an asparagus fern. The middle one is a geranium. I have NO idea about the one on the right. :) I am probably wrong on my guesses, but decided to try anyway.

Well, I immediately thought the middle one was a geranium, and the first one (on the left) was an asparagus fern...but now I'm not sure. The last one on the right???? too little for me to guess. :) Hope your day at the polls goes well and you get lots of crafting done!...oh and polling too! :)

Hey, I went back and looked at the picture blown up...I'm not right at all! Not sure what any of them are. :( Looking forward to the auto post later today.

Hmmm - I have trouble remembering names when they BLOOM let alone identifying by fliage. But they look like lovely, healthy plants.
Have fun at the polls.

I'll take a stab at it but I'm more of a vegetable gardener. The one on the left looks like some sort of fern, the middle one looks like a geranium and the last one has me really stumped - maybe sweet pea?
I'm looking forward to seeing what it really all is. Have fun at the polls. Show us what crafts you get done today. :)
