I've been scouting all week during outings with my visiting sister to find something Sky Blue for this week's color theme in the Year of Color.
Today we took her to Buffalo Springs Herb Farm, and I spotted a couple of Amish stars propped against a miniature antique sleigh in their barn. All I could think was "get the camera; that qualifies for Sky Blue!"
We had a w-o-n-d-e-r-f-u-l time! The gardens were lovely--even for a rather hot summer day. Lots
more flowers were in bloom than when we visited back in May, and I am absolutely in love with their picket-fenced garden with rhubarb growing in the corner by the wooden black crow and green beans climbing a teepee pole in one of the four square raised beds and healthy tomato vines just inside the fence. Hyacinth bean, coneflower, and black-eyed susan were around the inside perimeter. I love this garden! The owner told us to come back in September for even more variety as they were gearing up to plant their fall vegetables.
Tom joined us for lun
ch, and we picnicked in a delightfully shady area by a babbling stream--absolutely relaxing. The picnic table even had benches with backs; how perfect can you get?
We continued on to Wade's Mill even though the mill isn't in operation during the day when customers are touring. Grinding takes place every other day early morning and evening as the mill has been doing since 1742.
The yarn shop was our last stop. We spotted one of their wandering peacocks in the yard as we made our way into the country cottage to view some beautiful yarns. I purchased a colorful pink yarn made in Italy (Melissa) with lime green, blue, and yellow short eyelashes added to the main pink thread. I'll make it into a necklace as shown on this model. For any interested knitters out there...cast on 10 stitches using size 13 needles and knit until the necklace is long enough; tie it in a knot at the end. Voila! Bet has really inspired me! I hope I keep knitting after she leaves. ..
Today was our best excursion of the week. And tonight Micah and Elizabeth are coming over for a cookout and to see Aunt Bet.
We hear cooler temps are arriving tomorrow...just when Bet is leaving...and just when we were getting in the swing of things! We've had a very good week! Hope you've enjoyed tagging along with us. Hope everyone has a great weekend! :)
