1. Sitting at my breakfast nook, I love watching the sun as it rises over the Blue Ridge Mountains. 2. I love living in the country with breathing room between neighbors. 3. We're not far from the hiking trails on the Parkway; Humpback Rock has been a favorite, although now it's become a little too challenging for me. How did that happen?? 4. We're only 2 1/2 hours from Washington, D.C.; there's a lot of history in this area to explore. 5. It feels comforting hearing a mooing cow or braying donkey in the distance--sort of like all's right with the world. 6. I love looking out my bedroom window and seeing black cows on a green hillside. 7. I enjoy being able to have a garden plot to grow our own corn, tomatoes, and peas; and our town has a local Farmers' Market where we can buy produce we don't grow ourselves. 8. We get just enough snow here in the Valley to be fun...not too little and not too much. Ski resorts are nearby if any of our guests want to try them out. 9. The pace is slower here than in Richmond, Hampton, Newport News, and Williamsburg, all places we used to live. When we see a horse and buggy tied to the old hitching post at our local quilting shop, we ooh and aah and realize it really is slower here. 10. The people in the Valley are very friendly and helpful; we noticed this as soon as we moved here four years ago. 11. Cultural activities, like Shenandoah Shakespeare Blackfriars Playhouse, are available if we want to participate. And our local library carries many Christian novels. I've decided there must be a Christian working in the purchasing department. 12. Andre Viette's Nursery is just down the road, and I can visit their beautiful gardens anytime I'd like. I'm partial to Viette's because I won $100 in perennials there one year. :) 13. Sitting on my front porch, I love watching the sun set behind the Alleghenies. Come join me; I have plenty of rocking chairs! |
The purpose of the Thirteen meme is to get to know everyone who participates a little bit better every Thursday. Do you have one favorite thing about the place where the Lord has placed you?
~Deb
My one favorite thing about where the Lord has placed us is that we are so close to both the mountains and the ocean...both are beautiful creations that speak of His glory and majesty.

Living near cows must be intersting in the summer or when a good breeze comes through!!
About Wake Forest-the sun is gorgeous because there are few clouds.

I would LOVE to live in Virginia or Pennsylvania--it is so beautiful and rich with history! I do enjoy Colorado and there is much good to say about it, but my dad is in Pennsylvania and so my heart is always drawn there.

You're going to have to STOP this! LOL There is an ever-growing compulsion within me to come and visit you. I would LOVE to sit on your porch and look at the mountains, the sunrise and sunset, and listen to the cows moo.
As for the favorite hiking trail that suddenly became a little too challenging - it must be that the trail grew or something, mustn't it?! ;)

It sounds like a beautiful place to live, and I do love the sounds of animals. Currently our neighbor owns sheep and we often hear them.
Thanks for stopping by my TT.

My favorite thing about where the Lord has placed me? Hmmm.....I love our kitchen, HUGE front porch, little barn and our church where we love to serve.

We like the hike to Humpback Rock also. It's a gorgeous view even if it's hard work to get there. I think it's one of the hardest hikes I've ever done. But it's worth it to me! (:

I'd have to say that my favorite thing about living where God has placed me is being with my family. I love spending time with them but it seems it is never enough. Life can get too crazy sometimes.

I love the water in the bay a few minutes from my home. We can see it from our lounge windows, and I often go for walks beside it. Its moods change depending on the weather and time of day.
I love lots of other things too!

Lydia, what a perfect answer! I'm glad you are close to your family. We enjoy doing so many things together as a family, too.
Sherrin, sounds like you are in a beautiful area of Australia. Who wouldn't mind going for a walk every morning and every evening with scenery like that! Wow! Thanks for commenting.

Oh, the patchwork shop in D.! Another close place I like is Crabtree Falls, near Raphine.

Cindi, Yes, our family has hiked at Crabtree Falls once. And do you ever visit Buffalo Springs Herb Farm? or McCormick's Farm near Raphine?
