I've been scouting all week during outings with my visiting sister to find something Sky Blue for this week's color theme in the Year of Color.
Today we took her to Buffalo Springs Herb Farm, and I spotted a couple of Amish stars propped against a miniature antique sleigh in their barn. All I could think was "get the camera; that qualifies for Sky Blue!"
We had a w-o-n-d-e-r-f-u-l time! The gardens were lovely--even for a rather hot summer day. Lots more flowers were in bloom than when we visited back in May, and I am absolutely in love with their picket-fenced garden with rhubarb growing in the corner by the wooden black crow and green beans climbing a teepee pole in one of the four square raised beds and healthy tomato vines just inside the fence. Hyacinth bean, coneflower, and black-eyed susan were around the inside perimeter. I love this garden! The owner told us to come back in September for even more variety as they were gearing up to plant their fall vegetables.
Tom joined us for lunch, and we picnicked in a delightfully shady area by a babbling stream--absolutely relaxing. The picnic table even had benches with backs; how perfect can you get?
We continued on to Wade's Mill even though the mill isn't in operation during the day when customers are touring. Grinding takes place every other day early morning and evening as the mill has been doing since 1742.
The yarn shop was our last stop. We spotted one of their wandering peacocks in the yard as we made our way into the country cottage to view some beautiful yarns. I purchased a colorful pink yarn made in Italy (Melissa) with lime green, blue, and yellow short eyelashes added to the main pink thread. I'll make it into a necklace as shown on this model. For any interested knitters out there...cast on 10 stitches using size 13 needles and knit until the necklace is long enough; tie it in a knot at the end. Voila! Bet has really inspired me! I hope I keep knitting after she leaves. ..
Today was our best excursion of the week. And tonight Micah and Elizabeth are coming over for a cookout and to see Aunt Bet.
We hear cooler temps are arriving tomorrow...just when Bet is leaving...and just when we were getting in the swing of things! We've had a very good week! Hope you've enjoyed tagging along with us. Hope everyone has a great weekend! :)

Sounds like you're having a lovely time with your company!
I love your picture for the submission! If you look at some of the submitted pictures, it's enough to scratch your head and wonder exactly WHAT color they were aiming for. I guess they took artistic license or something like that. LOL

I will bet you are looking forward to cooler temps! I know you get tons of humidity where you live and that just makes the heat worse than ever!
Your visit looks fun and I love the idea of a picnic table with backs on the benches!

I have enjoyed it. Sometimes I get so homesick. They say home is where the heart is, but there is something to say about the places we grow up.
Thanks for the necklace instructions. I really like the look of that!

Glad you're enjoying a visit with your sister. Mine just arrived too - our extended family will get together on Tues for a day at the beach and a barbeque. Fun!

Thank you everyone for stopping by the Year of Color and commenting.
Mrs. U ~ Thanks for visiting and commenting! The only book I have at the moment is the Mason-Dixon Knitting book (in my sidebar) which does have patterns, but I'm sure there are many more out there. I'm very new to this!
There's also the Mason-Dixon website (just google Mason-Dixon Knitting and it should come up) and accompanying blog where many knitters will post their work. You could get some ideas there and see what other ladies are working on.
Also there's the website of the yarn company with instructions:
www.sugarncream.com
And, there's a website for beginner knitters:
www.allcrafts.net/crochetknit.htm
If anyone else has any good ones to recommend please do. Thanks!
