Yesterday evening Mom and I did something we'd never done before--went to pick blueberries at a local farm. We've plucked strawberries, blackberries and raspberries, but have never experienced the harvesting of blueberries. Some friends let us know that the patch was open for the season, so we wanted to go sometime during the two short weeks that the berries were ripe. The farm was located down a winding road, and the large patch was even more back into the woods, so we felt very out in the wilderness. Even though it was raining on and off last night, we were able to pick about a gallon before it got too dark and wet on us, and had a fun time doing it. The berry bushes were somehow different than we expected, and the rows were quite weedy (watch out for snakes!), but the blueberries we picked managed to taste quite delicious in spite of the fact. Today I froze what we had picked and will look forward to using them in muffins, etc, in the future.

Oh, I love blueberry picking. It does seem like it takes forever to fill a pail (unlike the larger strawberries), but they are so quick to freeze afterwards! Enjoy all those yummy berries! :o)

Oh, Blueberry picking!!! We ahaven't gone in years. When the older kids were much younger we would go every year and they didn't care for it much as it took so long to get a bucket full. Plus all the weeds, bugs and usually hot HOT sun. We would go in the morning with my mom and sister and her kids. Fun memories of laughing, some complaining but lots of yummy treats from our labors! Have you ever made Lucy Daley's blueberry pie? Absolutely DELICIOUS!!! I have the recipe if you'd like it. Enjoy the berries!

It did take awhile to accumulate a good amount of berries. The field had been heavily picked by the time we were able to go, so we had to explore the patch quite a bit til we came to some good picking. I would love to go again!
Mrs O,
No, I've never made Mrs. Daley's pie recipe--please send it on! Thanks! I'm planning to make Blueberry Lemon Muffins (formerly Raspberry Lemon Muffins from Taste of Home), which is a favorite of ours.
