The Cheese Shop is always a favorite stop, and my sister and I included it on our list of to-dos while she was visiting. The shop is located in Stuarts Draft, an area dotted with farmlands and scriptural signs posted alongside many of the mailboxes for passersby to read, like this one in front of the shop. One day I'd love to drive around and take pictures of all the different signs I see; I'd have quite a collection as families change the verses/sayings frequently.
We usually stock up on spices, nuts, oatmeal, and a variety of cheeses while there. The deli section offers samples of delicious dips and cheeses to try before buying. My sister bought some organic items, and this visit I purchased an interesting Amish cookbook--Cooking with the Horse & Buggy People II. Although the Amazon reviewer recommended other cookbooks over this one, I'm looking forward to trying out some of these recipes.
It was a good visit to the Cheese Shop! When y'all come to see us, we'll have to take you there! :)

I have to admit that I agree with the Amazon reviewer. To try Amish cooking at its best, use "Cooking with Wisdom" by Marvin Wengerd (Carlisle Press ~ same as Horse and Buggy cookbook). Mr. Wengerd also publishes the popular "Keepers at Home" magazine that I enjoy. Here in Maryland, our plain community is trying to go healthy and get away from the mixes and dyes. However, "Cooking with the Horse and Buggy People" is probably a fair representation of the amish in general. If you'd like the address of Keepers at Home let me know. I'm looking forward to your pictures of the recipes! ~ Kathie

I need to go home. Every time I have been lately has been on a Sunday and I miss the cheese shop being open. Sorry, my parents don't have a scripture sign in their yard.

Enjoy your purchases!!
When we are getting a review of the church planting conference?I read Scott Brown online and he mentions people from the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia-we know who that was.

Sounds like a wonderful place to live and visit. Quite different than here on the west coast.
I like the idea of a scripture sign. I will have to think about that. Thanks!
