I planted about 25 feet of green beans , and my family will usually only eat them "french-style" vs. simply whole or cut. Slicing them by hand can take quite awhile, and that's how I did it last summer, but I remembered seeing a gadget in the Urban Homemaker catalog called a green bean frencher. They no longer carry that item, but Dad and Mom were able to find one for me in December at a kitchen shop locally.
I am finally able to use it for the first time, and it works pretty well, after my getting the hang of feeding the beans through while turning the crank to make the blades rotate. As you can see from this picture, it was kind of an interesting set-up, as the frencher would not screw onto the table or countertop very well--a chair worked, though! I'll have to try a table again.
The machine made the job of slicing the green beans a lot faster.
We served the fresh steamed green beans with a little garlic butter, lemon juice and Mrs. Dash Original seasoning. Yum, yum!

I think I have a little bit of Girotti blood,I only like to eat the green beans "french style".I never realized until I saw the picture that one could buy a green bean frencher. It looks like our caveteli maker-only smaller.

Now, I love green beans any way you cook them!
How sweet and thoughtful to "french style" them for others so they can enjoy them too!

We love doing the green beans french style too! We have one of those little frenchers and we think they are so cool!
How is your Mom and Granny doing?

Mrs. C, I think I remember you showing us that cavateli maker when we visited with you. The frencher has definitely come in handy, and I'm thankful we were able to find one.
Mrs. H, me too! Tender, whole fresh-picked especially. :)
Mrs. W, isn't it interesting? Sarah and I frenched some beans together for awhile and it was fun to see how fast we could go working as a team. Watch your e-mail tonight after we talk to Mom. :) Thanks for your prayers!
