This past Friday evening our family was invited over for dinner by two of the interns from the Salatin Farm. We met Nathan and Jacob earlier this summer and posted about their visit here. As we arrived, the welcoming committee came out to greet us...Moooo!
Here we are arriving at their trailer on the property. My mom was visiting us for the week so it worked out well that she could accompany us.
One of the topics of conversation was all the hard work the guys accomplished to get the trailer in a livable condition. Nathan gave us a tour of their home-away-from-home, including the one bedroom set up to accommodate six interns! Hailing from Alaska and Texas, they are in the area for four to six months learning the ins and outs of operating a farm and concentrating on chicken processing.
The guys sure didn't mean for us to leave hungry! Jacob seemed right at home in the kitchen, and they really put out a spread for our family. Would you like to know what they prepared?
Menu: A whole chicken cooked in the crockpot (you can see Jacob as he prepares to lift it to the serving dish), potatoes and carrots, tender pork backbone, taco salad, and delicious fruit salad, followed by dessert--a variety of cookies mailed from Jacob's mom and sister in Alaska! (Thank you, Mom and sister!)
All three meats that they prepared were produced on the farm, and we were even sent home with two pounds of frozen beef! Everything was delicious!
After enjoying conversation around the table, we passed out hymn books and sang a few songs with Tom accompanying on guitar. Nathan closed out the evening reading chapters 14 and 15 in Genesis, part of their nightly scripture reading, and Jacob ended in prayer.
What a nifty time down on the farm! Thank you so much, guys! You made us feel very welcome.
Jacob will be driving the 4200 miles (!!) back to Alaska, and Nathan has accepted another opportunity elsewhere in Virginia when their internship is over on October 10. We all wish them well as they seek the Lord's will for their future vocation.

"Use hospitality one to another without grudging." 1 Peter 4:9
We appreciate the times you have welcomed Nathan into your home and included him in your day's events. It is a joy to our hearts that your family is demonstrating hospitality toward our son while he is far away from home, and that you are also willing to allow him the opportunity to practice the 'one anothers' of scripture.
Praying God's blessing on your family for your obedience to Him and your kindness toward Nathan.

Deb ~ I am so glad I ended up waiting to comment on these posts. It allowed me the privilege of reading these young men's mothers comment. How wonderful.
It looks like y'all had a good time and that Jacob and Nathan enjoyed their hosting duties. I feel for Jacob and his pending drive. JR was stationed at a remote Air Force Base our second year of marriage. At the end of that 14 months, he drove home to Florida to get me, so we could make our move to Maine (his next assignment). It's a long haul between Alaska and the Atlantic coast!
