10 - 9 - 8 - 7 - 6 - 5 - 4 - 3 - 2 - 1...the day is here! Our double date day with our friends!
We met our long-time friends, Fred and Chris, about 25 years ago at our church in Hampton/Newport News, Virginia, when our firstborns were just babies. I think we hit it off right from the beginning, but somehow with raising our four and their ten children, we didn't start double-dating until fairly recently.
Our first double date was in 2001 at the James River Pie Company in Williamsburg...not the most exclusive place, actually, but oh, the pizzas and pies they produced and what memories we made! I did find a picture of us back then at a picnic table in front of the place, but it wouldn't scan in well. We were seven years younger, so believe me, I definitely would have posted it if it had worked!
The picture above was taken in 2004 at Ruth's Chris Steakhouse in Richmond. We had moved out to the Valley by that time, so our plan to get together was for each couple to drive a couple of hours and meet halfway in Richmond. Our being several hours apart didn't stop our friendship as the double date pictures below show.
The top two pictures above were taken in Maymont Park in Richmond for our double date in 2005. Do those beautiful purple flowers behind me look familiar? Hannah selected them to become part of her website banner for Graceful Designs.
The two lower up-close-and-personal shots were taken at Olive Garden when we managed to squeeze in a double date while attending the History Conference in Hampton in 2006. Where there's a will, there's a way!
Somehow, we never were able to schedule a time to meet in 2007, so that's why today is extra special. Later this morning we'll travel and meet in Charlottesville for lunch at Michie Tavern. I've never been there, but it sure sounds like a neat place to sit and talk with good friends by a roaring fire enjoying good ol' Southern fare. The weather forecast says to expect rain and wind most of the day, but I'm thinking we won't even notice!

That sounds like a really neat tradition. :-D We are spending our saturday hunkered down and snowed in. A roaring fire, some hot tea, a cat in my lap, and my knitting. My birthday was this past week, so my husband has graciously agreed to suffer and play scrabble with me, today. :-D He hates scrabble and it is my favorite game. He plays it two or three times a year: birthday, anniversay, and sometimes valentines day. heehee Have fun!

We are staying in - out of the snow.
Yesterday we were dumped with a foot with more falling as I write this...

The rain here postponed the Boy Scout camping trip until early this morning,so the boys are gone now..Allison and I are unsure of what we will be doing,except for church tommorow.

What special memories! Sounds like a wonderful day, rain or shine! Michie Tavern is beautiful. We visited, but were picnicing or something else that day so didn't eat there. As for us, Sarah and I are heading out to a few yard sales this morning. It is finally sunny here. We may head to a nearby campground that has a trail and walk awhile after it warms up this afternoon. Have a lovely time! :-)

What a wonderful tradition. I think that is what I enjoy most about the internet ~ catching up with childhood friends and keeping in touch with current friends. Have a restful, fun day. We have a piano recital and chores, and lots of rain!

I wanted to spend my Saturday sleeping in and avoiding the horrible blizzard-like conditions that we are so blessed with -- in March, of all months! Anyways, that was not the case, as I had to work at both of my jobs. Your Saturday sounds soooooo much better, how fun to double-date with old friends. :)

Our first double date was at JAMESTOWN Pie Company! We sat outside on the picnic tables and had a great time.
By the way, they have a store in the new City Center in Newport News now.
Chris and I had a wonderful time today. However, I will no longer be able to make fun of her 5 hour lunches with you anymore since I think we went overtime today!
