Today is the 17th Annual National Quilting Day. The logo for NQD this year is the "Eight Hands Around" block which symbolizes the long tradition of friends joining together to share their love of quilting.
We don't have friends coming over today to celebrate, but one thing I plan is organizing all my quilting fabrics and thinking through what I need to start the girls' jelly roll quilts. I don't have a sewing room, but I do have an extra closet shelf that Tom is installing for me this morning to have a spot for my quilting basket and fabrics. I will love having more room.
Do you have any quilting plans for the day? If not today, you can also unofficially recognize the observance this whole month of March, which is what I'll do. I so want a finished quilt before gardening season rolls around.

I have always been interested in quilting - I think because I love the combinations of colour and design. And reading those Amish books it seems that it is also a women's social event which sounds like fun. But I have to confess that I can barely sew a button on. I tried to learn to sew when my daughter was born but I couldn't seem to make the seams go straight...
Too bad I wasn't close enough to come and learn from you - do you think you could teach a novice like me? I think I must be craft challenged (although I can draw a bit)
I will be looking forward to seeing the finished product. They are always so beautiful!

Quilts seem to hold such a sweet heritage! I've got some plans to try and make a quilt for the newest grandbaby due in August so we'll see how that progresses. I crocheted an afghan for our sweet Breanna but after all the inspiration from Krisp Quilt and her links I've been bit by the "quilt bug"!! Keep us posted on your progress.
