Saturday morning down at the Wharf ~ here's our Knit in Public group knitting away in the shade in front of Blue Mountain Coffees and across the street from all the vendors and shoppers at the Farmers' Market. What a good turnout, many more than attended last year's event!
I arrived around 10 a.m., stuck on my name tag which entitled me to a free drink at Blue Mountain Coffees, registered for door prizes, picked up my welcome goody bag (which included a beautiful skein of Noro yarn, wow!), found a good place to sit, and started knitting on my sage green kitchen towel. Very relaxing and fun!
Everyone was excited about the day and especially eager for the drawing of all the very nice door prizes throughout the morning. I enjoyed seeing what others were knitting...socks, sweaters, afghan square, scarf, pocketbook, and one lady was spinning (see foreground of picture). Three men were knitting this year!
Did you notice some of the crazy hats in the crowd? One of the prize incentives included decorating a hat with knitting accessories. See below for a few of the colorful creations sporting needles, yarn, measuring tape, sheep with a felted bow, felted butterfly, and what the peacock hat had on it pertaining to knitting I never could tell!
Joe, owner of On The Lamb and coordinator of the Knit in Public Day in our city, took time to teach a lady how to knit--how appropriate for this occasion.
Lots of folks wandered by during the morning, saw our large group, and asked, "What are y'all doing?"
Joe: "Just knitting in public." :)
I enjoyed talking to the lady knitting beside me. She showed me a book she's reading, and I took a picture rather than write the title down. I'll look for it at our local library--Things I Learned From Knitting by Stephanie Pearl-McPhee.
And did I mention that I won a door prize?
Ten skeins of Sublime, baby cashmere merino silk yarn in a beautiful blue colorway, came home with me today!! Check out my smiling face after winning! :)
Knit in Public Day sure was fun and profitable!

Coming Monday, Part 2
All right Deb!!!!! Doesn't this mean you won something 2 years in a row?
Hmmm, what would the knitters think of my unusual Wagner Stitch that I creatively invented while learning?

You DO always win!! :) Looks like a perfectly beautiful way to spend a Saturday! Your post reminded me that I need to get back to knitting my first-ever project of a dish cloth. Congrats on the winning the yarn!
