The families in our church have organized several Keepers at Home skills days this year for the younger girls and moms to learn new crafts and homemaking skills. It has been so encouraging to meet and enjoy a meal together and have fun learning. Closer friendships with our church family have formed as a result.
The first gathering was Sarah's Cake Decorating class back in April; she wrote about it here.
Last month Sarah and I taught a Knitting class. Here's the verse that Hannah calligraphed and positioned between two knitting needles on top of my Mason knitting jar and used as one of the table decorations. The knitting jar contains a ball of yarn and my current knitting project that I can pick up and take with me whenever I want to knit someplace (like Crabtree Falls).
To the right is a picture of the table lined with baskets of yarn, needles, knitting books, and other accessories to create just a perfect atmosphere for our first class. Instructions and a variety of dishcloth patterns were also available at each seat for quick reference.
As you can see, everyone is concentrating intently to learn casting on and the knit and purl stitch. We practiced and practiced before starting the dishcloth pattern we picked out.
I think everyone had a good time, but I'm not sure I made knitters out of everyone! I'm still waiting to see some finished dishcloths! :)
Tomorrow I'll post my latest WIP (work in progress). And...it's green!

Hello Mrs. Girotti!
I am working on my dishcloth after restarting several times. Otherwise, you would see a finished dishcloth! Oh, and mine looks different than Momma's! :)

My granddaughter Abby would love being taught to knit, she keeps asking me to, and I'm just learning to knit & purl and have not made anything but she's impressed anyway. The photos are cool.

Our church in Ohio had a Keepers at Home group along with their home school group.Since you are done with official homeschooling it is nice to see that you are involved with teaching the knitting and cake decorating.

The idea to teach young women to be busy in the home...where ever did you come up with this idea? (: Wonderful job sharing your gift of knitting with other ladies who are interested. What a wonderful way to open you home and share that "bowl of soup". Good job ladies. Keep praying and focusing on the Lord. Sincerely, :) (Mommy of two little ones)
