For those of you who have noticed that I've been missing in action on the blog for the last two weeks...well, unfortunately, I have a reason.
My Aunt Bunny, who recently celebrated her 90th birthday and whom you met in this post, fell in her apartment and broke her hip. After slowly sliding from the living room to her phone in the bedroom, she finally managed to call us over an hour and a half later.
Seeing as we're two hours away,Tom advised her to call 9-1-1 for help to arrive sooner than we could. Thankfully, a fireman was able to climb through her third floor bathroom window to rescue her and get her to the hospital.
Sarah and I hurriedly packed our bags and drove to the Emergency Room at Henrico Doctors' Hospital in Richmond, arriving in the middle of the night. We've been with her through several room changes, surgery for a partial hip replacement, the transfer to a rehab center, and an unexpected trip back to the hospital for a brain scan.
We returned home this weekend to reunite with family, pick up some freshly laundered clothes, and meet with missionary friends in Lynchburg for lunch on Saturday. Thankfully, this was a good adventure, and we enjoyed our time at Olive Garden with Brian, Tita, and Ana-Lucia from Nicaragua. They were in town helping their daughter move into a house while she's attending Liberty University.
What adventure awaits us tomorrow when we drive back to Richmond to check on Aunt Bunny? Hannah will go along with me this visit, and Sarah will hold down the fort here.
Would you pray with me that Aunt Bunny will get the therapy she needs these next couple of weeks and that her health will improve? She will stay with us during the remainder of her recuperation time after release from rehab. We need much wisdom to make some decisions on her behalf as to her care and living arrangements. Thank you!
I'll check in later in the week when I get home.
~Deb

I'm sorry to hear about your aunt's accident. Bless her heart for crawling to the phone to call you! My grandma lay on the floor all night once after she fell, because she didn't want to bother anyone. It broke my heart when I found that out to think of her lying there in pain. Anyway . . . I'm glad you and your daughters were able to go help. Praying for all of you as you continue to care for her!

Your Aunt Bunny is really courageous! To be able to crawl and not give up for an hour and half's time with a broken hip and then be able to reach up to the phone because I'm sure it wasn't on the floor! That takes strength with your mid-section broken. If it was me and I was strong enough to crawl, I'd be crawling all day because I probably wouldn't be able remember where I put my phone. I'd have to make a few trips past the pantry to refresh myself.
We're praying for your Aunt's health and that'd you'd make wise decisions regarding her in the months and years ahead.
