The sun is shining beautifully today after a very rainy and stormy week--a perfect day to fly your flag--it's Flag Day!
Another family in our church is hosting this Sunday's meeting so we're headed out in the country a few miles away a little later this morning for worship.
The fellowship today will be quite different because both Tom and Sarah have been sick this week and will be staying home so no one catches their bug. Plus, another family has also been sick and won't be attending today. When your home church is small anyway, if folks are sick or out of town they are really missed for sure!
The conservative music we sing each week is from the Trinity Hymnal. Here's a song someone requested last Sunday that we had heard only once before so it was still new and different for our family. I liked it a lot.
I Was a Wandering Sheep, Original Trinity Hymnal, #396
I was a wand'ring sheep,
I did not love the fold;
I did not love my Shepherd's voice,
I would not be controlled.
I was a wayward child,
I did not love my home;
I did not love my Father's voice,
I loved afar to roam.
The Shepherd sought his sheep,
The Father sought his child;
They followed me o'er vale and hill,
O'er deserts waste and wild:
They found me nigh to death,
Famished and faint and lone;
They bound me with the bands of love,
They saved the wand'ring one.
Jesus my Shepherd is;
'Twas he that loved my soul,
'Twas he that washed me in his blood,
'Twas he that made me whole;
'Twas he that sought the lost,
That found the wand'ring sheep,
'Twas he that brought me to the fold,
'Tis he that still doth keep.
I was a wand'ring sheep,
I would not be controlled;
But now I love my Shepherd's voice,
I love, I love the fold.
I was a wayward child,
I once preferred to roam;
But now I love my Father's voice,
I love, I love his home.
We hope you have an enjoyable Lord's Day!

--Written by Horatius Bonar -- "the Prince of Scottish Hymnwriters." Two other hymns of his that I like very much are "I Heard the Voice of Jesus Say" (the tune by John B. Dykes is best), and "Not What My Hands Have Done," best tune: LEOMINSTER.

Carol, thank you for giving credit to Mr. Bonar as I failed to include his name after the title of his hymn. Also thank you for sharing two other titles; I will check those out, too. Hope you are well. I'm glad you commented.

I don't know if you have heard Sinclair Ferguson. He is the pastor of First Presbyterian Church in Columbia, SC. You can get on the internet and hear him. He loves Bonar and is absolutely probably the most well spoken, from the heart, and knowledgeable preacher in the world. Get on and listen to him. On a Wednesday he spoke on Bonar. You'll want to hear more and more of his sermons. Let me know if you already knew about him and if you listen. gwelsford@gmail.com Linda Welsford
