Shooting guns? (I come from a house full of hunters, so it's the logical guess to me!) :)

Any blasting going on in your area?

My children and I had fun with this one! Our choices: target practice, someone is getting a whopper spanking, the Methodist choir is practicing, the Baptists are having a business meeting, navy jets are flying by, a politician is waxing eloquent, or cowboys yodelling.
We can't wait to find out the answer!

The ears are being blocked I would guess target practice.

1) Pluggine their ears to avoid hearing the Dynamite...something to do w/the shed's installation.
2) Or, Jonathan was signaling that he didn't want to hear his sisters singing while he was stuck outside working...you know, like brothers do to sisters--w/out, of course, sticking out the requisite tongue!
My money's on #2! :)

Let's see, you're fairly close to Washington DC, perhaps this is a vain attempt at blocking out the noise of the silliness (insanity?) emanating from that strange city of late....
Couldn't be blocking out his Sisters' singing, as he was IN the shed helping them.
Shooting, maybe.... open field, perhaps trap or skeet? a twelve bore DOES speak with rather a loud bark, although anyone behind the muzzle line will miss the most of it. And no one should be ahead of that line anyway....

Yeah, but the singing was on Monday, Nick. Perhaps they wanted to sing again on Wednesday, but Jonathan had to work outside, and he was unable to join them. He didn't like that one bit.
I think that scenario is a viable one. Work w/me, huh?

Y'all are cracking me up with all the guesses! I think I like the "cowboys yodeling" and the "DC blocking attempt" guess. Not accurate...but very funny! :)

Well...when are you going to let us know why they are plugging their ears?!
