Hello, faithful readers of Mountain Musings! We hope you enjoyed your short vacation from reading our blog--we are now up and running again after a wonderful time away as a family to Plymouth and Boston, Massachusetts for the Reformation 500 celebration.
At least, the blog will be somewhat up and running--after a week of recouping from our travels, Mom and Sarah are headed out of town again to visit Aunt Bet. So, it is my task this week to fill you in on highlights of our trip to New England. We will see whether holding down the fort and writing much of substance here can happen at the same time.
Our drive up north started on Sunday, June 28th. We decided to stop briefly in Connecticut to see family there for a couple of hours, which was a nice spontaneous visit before continuing to our hotel that night.
Today I'd like to share some of our pictures from the first two days of our trip, Monday and Tuesday spent in Plymouth. Vision Forum was hosting a special Plymouth mini-tour before the Boston conference, but our family took in the sights on our own and chose to visit the different historic locations on the opposite day as the large tour group! We still managed to run into them on occasion around town.
We saw the Mayflower replica, Plymouth Rock, Plimoth Plantation, and many monuments and landmarks in the historic downtown parts of Plymouth, such as Burial Hill where many of the Pilgrims were buried. We looked out at Plymouth Harbor from the top of Cole's Hill and the beach near where the Pilgrims first landed.
It was fitting to be in Plymouth before the conference, because we were able to see how the Biblical principles that were proclaimed during the Reformation influenced the Pilgrim Separatists and ultimately the founding of America.

I'm glad you are back. What wonderful photos. It makes me want to jump in the car and head there to view all that incredible wealth of history in just that one place. Hope your mom and sister have a safe journey. Have fun holding down the fort.
Blessings,
Victoria

I'm with Victoria. The pix make me want to see some of the sights myself. Of course, I would be hard-pressed to explain my absence to my kids, and husband.
Best to your mom.

Welcome back.. you were missed. Especially by those of us who had to "hold the fort" at home rather than be "banished to Boston". Will check out the photos next......

The Australian (me) who has absolutely no idea about American history - would like to know... Who is William Bradford? And is that a Hebrew inscription on his grave marker? Was that a usual feature of the head stones on Burial Hill?
Thanks for the pictures, and I look forward to more of your time away!
