Dad has recently begun the endeavor of teaching through Psalm 119 on Sundays. Yesterday we studied the third octet of verses, mainly focusing on the phrase in verse 18, "Open Thou mine eyes, that I may behold wondrous things out of Thy law." We sang this new hymn corresponding to the theme of the illumination of God's Word by His Spirit.
I have been meaning to post a link to a helpful recording that was given to us several years ago. It is the whole chapter of Psalm 119 musically arranged and sung in 4-part harmony by some folks in PA. You can download the tracks for free here or purchase a CD here. Hearing Scripture set to music is known to be quite beneficial in the pursuit of memorization. This CD includes original compositions as well as familiar tunes such as "Pomp and Circumstance" or "The Skye Boat Song."
Here is another album I've been listening to lately. Psalms of Praise features 41 selections from The Book of Psalms for Singing, also tastefully sung in harmonious a cappella style. Great listening!
Comment with any of your favorite Scripture song recommendations.

When I saw your scripture reference, I immediately thought you were going to refer to this song:

It's a good one too and seems to be based on the same psalm as the one you reference.

We love the Serven's psalm-singing CD's. It's such a blessing to hear even our youngest ones going around singing scripture. Thanks for the links to the other CD's.

Thanks, Aunt Bet, for taking the the time to comment and remind me of this hymn. It was stuck in my mind for the rest of that day.:)
Yes, the Serven's music is an excellent resource and encouragement. Thanks for the testimony, Victoria.
