On Wednesday, Madeline, one of our friends from our church, came over for an afternoon of cake decorating and art with us. It was a lot of fun! First we had lunch, then we dove right into making some peanut butter filled candy to put on the cake. I had baked and iced the chocolate cake the night before, so all we had to do was make it pretty. :)
For the main decorations, we made some marshmallow fondant. Madeline rolled it out just like cookie dough and cut out gingerbread men, angels, trees, stars, and leaves. She arranged them all over the top and sides of the cake and then topped everything with an assortment of festive sprinkles.
The last step was to pipe the bottom shell border, and we were all done! I think she did a great job. :) Then it was time to go on to art with Hannah....

Watercolor painting was the art next on our afternoon agenda. We looked through my watercolor books to get some ideas of what to work on first. Madeline chose to paint a colorful basket of fruit for her mom. She enjoyed mixing the paints and watching her picture take shape as I showed her different tricks and techniques such as using plastic wrap or sea salt for texture. She was a creative student and inspired me to get back into practicing my own painting. :)
The finished product:
We had a wonderful time with you, Madeline!

What a blessing you girls are! Thank you for giving up your afternoon to bless another Momma. And you can tell by Madeline's eyes that she had a wonderful time.
Marshmallow fondant ~ that sounds like a winner recipe. I'll have to google that.
Did Madeline paint the picture?! Just beautiful.
Thank you for a delightful post.

Madeline looked like she had a great day. You Girotti ladies are so sweet to bless a young girl like that. I'm sure she went home and talked about it all evening. The cake was so cute!
Blessings,
Victoria
P.S. Hope the ice storm problems are all over.
