They are beautiful! You have been busy. I have sweet memories of helping my mom make pickles. The kids and I made some a few years back...I'd love to do it again. Thanks Hannah for sharing. :) I just took a walk down memory lane.

Mrs. O, thanks for sharing your memories. I first learned to can when Granny made pickles with me in her basement many years ago. :)
Rose, I really need to get better at documenting what recipe I use--I tend to look up a bunch of recipes and then combine the best parts to make something new--and then fail to write it down! But here is what I think I did:
Bread and Butter Refrigerator Pickles
5 lbs. cucumbers, sliced
1 medium onion, sliced
1/3 c. Kosher salt
2 c. cider vinegar
2 c. white vinegar
2 c. sugar
1/2 c. honey
1 T. mustard seeds
1 t. celery seeds
1 t. ground mustard
1 t. turmeric
Layer cucumbers, salt, and onions in large bowl. Cover with ice and a towel and let stand 4 hrs. Drain off water and rinse gently. Combine remaining ingredients on stove until hot and dissolved. Pack jars with cucumber mixture and pour hot liquid over. Refrigerate. Makes about 3 qts.

Girottis- If we had ended up in residency at UVA, I would have been at your house all the time :) Looks like there's lots of stuff to learn there about gardening, preserving food and quilting- all things I want to know more about! Unfortunately, here in Chicago, our garden is limited to a few pots and I think besides our herbs, we're only going to get a few tomatoes out of it all. :) Oh well. Hi to everyone from us! Krista
