I have to say up front that this isn't my very own original recipe for meatloaf. In fact, I have no clue where I found it or how long ago I copied it down from wherever. But thank you to whomever should be given credit.
Over the years I have made it my very own, and I call this one a "keeper" after trying many different meatloaf recipes. My sister gave it the award-winning name, and I decided I liked that.
Try it and see what you think.
Here goes a shot at copying it down...I can still read it, plus I almost know it by heart. Wouldn't you think I'd take the time to recopy it on a pretty recipe card?
Deb's Award Winning Meatloaf Recipe
- 1 1/2 lbs hamburger (I use 2 1/4 lbs in two loaf pans)
- 3/4 cup cracker crumbs (I use a sleeve of Roasted Vegetable Ritz)
- 1 large onion, chopped
- 1 egg
- 1 1/2 tsp salt (or a little less)
- 1/2 tsp pepper
Mix above ingredients well and press into loaf pan.
Pour sauce over top after mixing well:
- 3 Tablespoons brown sugar
- 1 1/2 Tablespoon vinegar
- 2 tsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 can 15 oz tomato sauce (or Hannah's homemade sauce)
- 2 Tablespoons mustard
The picture below shows the sauce covering the meatloaf before I popped it into the oven. Bake 375 degrees for 1 hour, 15 minutes.
When it's done, drain off any grease, but try not to lose any of the sauce. If you try this recipe, please let me know if you think it's as delicious as we do!

Too funny the picture of your worn out recipe. :) *giggle* I have several that look like that , they are recipes I got from you YEARS ago. I keep using them even though the paper is about to fall apart. :) lol

I love the photo of your original recipe Deb! As for the recipe, it sounds good especially with it's own sauce. Thanks.

My sister has a worn out recipe card. She never recopied it but made copies of the original. So the stains are still on the copies.
I wonder if one of the people who stayed with in Hampton before 3 of you were married gave you the recipe.Or even Pat.
I have a couple recipe cards with the initials DG on them.

Thanks for sharing the recipe. I am going to give it a whirl tomorrow. Hannah's homemade sauce?? I gave a quick cursory look on your blog, but couldn't find it, and it didn't have a link.
Good night from the Bay Area of Northern CA.

It's another winning recipe from Deb! I made this yesterday for Sunday dinner and my family really enjoyed it. I usually think meatloaf recipes don't have enough sauce, but this one has plenty. Thank you! Crista

This looks extremely delicious! I think I'm going to make this recipe for my kids because meatloaf's their ultimate favorite. And at their young age, I'm happy that they are already practicing healthy eating habits. Everyday, I always tell them to eat clean. Recipes from the internet are actually my sources of healthy and delicious dishes for my family.
