If you were traveling along a crooky-tail mountain road and spotted this colorful advertisement parked beside a quilt shop, would you stop? Do you think I would?
You'd better believe it! Except in this case...it was on a Sunday!
We were on our way to visit a church in Culpeper a few weeks ago, so we traveled up I-81 and over the mountain to Luray and then over another mountain through Sperryville and on to Culpeper. The drive was very curvy and long! But it was definitely beautiful!
So, of course, I made plans to travel back that way sometime and visit that little mountain quilt shop. My sister was here visiting last week, and I thought it would be the perfect time to find this little shop again. So off we went on an excursion!
First we did a little antiquing in New Market. My sister, Granny, and Hannah all found treasures to bring home!
All that wandering through aisles of junk antiques worked up an appetite, so we backtracked a bit to eat at the famous Johnny Appleseed's Restaurant. The apple fritters...oooh, the apple fritters!
After lunch there was actually discussion in the car about whether we should continue over the mountain or go home and call it a day. Huh? We haven't seen the quilt shop yet!!
I'm not sure what I was expecting, but it wasn't quite what I thought. In other words, it wasn't a shop to buy fabric--it was a quilt outlet rather than a quilt shop.
There were lots of fragrant candles, quilted purses, and touristy things...and there were quilts folded on shelves in the back.
Then we walked next door to the connecting market with more touristy things, plus apples, peaches, and honey for sale.
The fruit looked very appealing. I'd never seen yellow plums before.
After a few more stops along the route back home, we arrived tired and ready to sit down to a delicious supper. All in all, it was a good day.
I'd say it's pretty convenient having a daughter who enjoys traveling with me and another daughter who enjoys keeping the home fires burning...and having food on the table for weary travelers!

Pretty convenient indeed! :) Too bad that the quilt shop wasn't exactly what you thought but it does sound like a really fun day anyway.

Hi Debbie, Thank you for taking me along as a back seat passenger today! I was so quiet you didn't know I was there did you? I have so enjoyed being part of your day out. We do get yellow plums in the UK, usually nice and juicy and sweet :0)
Have a blessed weekend and enjoy the sweetness of God's Word.

It is convenient! It would be even more convenient if you could send a magic carpet to Australia for a fourth passenger on such days!
Seriously Deb, it sounds like a really lovely day and that truck epitomises middle America for me.
