Earlier in the year I received a Charm Pack of 5" squares of Breath of Avignon. Last week I started a project using the disappearing 9-patch tutorial found on the p.s. i quilt blog. It was fun and easy!
After I cut the 9-patch block in half and then in half once again, I experimented with turning the blocks every which way. It was interesting to come up with different combinations to see what looked best.
Then I sewed all the blocks together again and ironed them.
Next came sandwiching the top, batting, and backing together and beginning the quilting process.
I decided to do a simple quilted X across the blocks. It turned out nicely.
The pattern calls for using 27 charm squares which makes 3 blocks. I ended up making 4 blocks and making it a little longer. I like this size.
Next I sewed on the binding; I love the fabric I found in my stash for this project--it matches perfectly! After washing and drying the quilted piece for that crinkled look, I took it outside for a picture.
Now it's ready for gift-giving. This pattern was so easy that I think another one is in my future!
~Deb
Very cute!

I love it. I made a disappearing nine patch runner for a friend last fall. It was a fun pattern. I love the colors in yours.

Deb ~ Your table runner is beautiful...as well as your geraniums! I have two half-barrels full of pink geraniums, but they look sickly from the record breaking temps this summer. In San Diego, my geraniums were 40" high and 24" wide!
I can't wait to show Anna and Lizzie your table runner. Actually, that would make a wonderful gift for our music teachers...since my collection of black and white music fabrics has grown to 35 different fabrics!
Thanks for the idea!

Nice job Deb!! LOVE all the colors, great idea to add a 4th block. Casey just made the same runner but with 3 blocks total. She used the left over fabrics from a layer cake that she had purchased for Ryleigh's quilt. It really turned out pretty too. She was surprised how easy it was. We are gona make a semstress out of her yet! LOL

It's beautiful! I've looked at disappearing nine-patches but I haven't tried one yet. You're inspiring me yet again to try something new . . . although I still have several WIPs going right now with no time to finish them in the next week or so. I'm having to put things on hold now till we get back from visiting the boys in CA. September is beginning to look exciting!

I just made a disappearing 9 patch last night. I probably won't blog about it until Monday..but I am calling it my Ugly Duckling quilt for now. I used some plain colors where you cut and it didn't look so good, until I cut, then it turned out beautiful!
Yours is fun. Isn't it nice when you can whip out a quilt so quickly?
