We finally have internet back!!
The snowstorm this week in our area of Virginia stole our power (thankfully only for most of one day and only for one meal cooked outside on the grill), but we also lost our internet reception for three days...no current news, weather forecast, recipe-checking, reading blogs, or ability to answer comments and emails.
These pictures are especially for Granny. She should be glad she's with my sister in South Carolina now! Our neighbor's house is somewhere behind those snow-laden trees: And below is our driveway that Jonathan and Sarah worked many long hours to snow-blow. In the distance it curves left and goes down a very steep hill which they cleared:It snowed a foot and a half before stopping! Sarah was pleased to finally see some real snow this season, to say the least! Some fun downhill sledding for her but also lots of shoveling--so why does she like this stuff with so much work attached to it??!
With no return of electricity in sight, here's Jonathan making a path to the grill so Sarah could grill some pizzas for us: The Elliott's Knob transmitter supplies our internet reception and was out of commission from the storm. That little snow path winding upwards, top left of the photo below, proceeds higher and higher up the mountain until you reach the transmitter.
Hannah took this zoomed photo out of her bedroom window. Anyway, all that to say...we're sure glad someone finally reached the peak and restored power up there:Today was our very first Saturday Sampler Block-of-the-Month class for this new season. Yes, if you hadn't spotted the 2013 Projects button on the right sidebar yet, I signed up for another year. You knew I would, right? Thankfully, there was no problem getting out of our subdivision and to class today.
Here's the first Show and Tell this month...a lovely purple and green quilt from a previous Saturday Sampler class a couple of years ago. I took that class and still have this quilt top to make! I think I'll hop right on it...after I finish this past year's Saturday Sampler.Anyway, we had an interesting class with lots of newbies participating this year. The red fabric packet we received for the first block was just gorgeous--but the instructions looked quite confusing actually, and I can't wait to tackle it this week. Yes, this week and not the night before next month's class!
That's been our snowy week and my Saturday in class. And, thankfully, Tom is finally home tonight from working the storm outages.
All is well.

I'm with Sarah. I'll take all that snow, even with the shovelling. Ok, internet transmitter on top of a mountain. Gotcha. I did wonder why a snow storm would take it out for longer than power :)
Thanks for the photos, it's beautiful

After a herniated disc that I got from shoveling I am very happy to live where snow is infrequent.Even when we got snow in North Carolina we let it melt or swept it away!!
Pretty pictures.

Beautiful snow, but I wouldn't want the work or the outages associated with it. Believe it or not, you've had more snow than we have in Canada. Because not all of Canada is a frozen wasteland! LOL We live in an area that God blessed with mild winters. Amen!
Enjoy your BOM classes this year!

Actually that should say "more snow that in OUR AREA of Canada" because, obviously, some parts of this country gets tons of snow. Just not this one! ;)

Wow! THAT is a lot of snow in a short amount of time. Your place is absolutely beautiful though. OOOOOoooo, I knew you'd sign up for the BOM! Look forward to seeing your blocks come together this year!

Unsure whether I'm a bit envious or not ... I love your view, the snow is gorgeous, but, I know I wouldn't enjoy the power outage. ;)

I just got back from Toronto, and they didn't have anywhere near the amount of snow you all got. I did enjoy seeing snow again as we get so little here in the deep South. Glad you're power is back on and the driveway is cleared. Take heart, spring will arrive very soon.
Blessings,
Vicky

I am sorry you all lost power, but those pictures are just beautiful!! I am sure there were many "thanks" to J for clearing the path to the grill..what a sweet boy! :) You know you are a TRUE quilter when you don't even let a little ole snow storm keep you from your class! LOL This 2013 BOM is really going to be beautiful. Have fun!

I so enjoyed this post. The pix are yet another display of the creativity of God in nature. My 17-year-old daughter personally saw snow for the first time last November when we were in the moutains, and absolutely loved it. One of my sons had this romantic idea about the East Coast, and as a college freshman, went to school in Boston. It was while attending that school that the romantic notion dissipated. When, in the spring, he couldn't play tennis because of snow on the court, he was convinced that, just maybe, he would return to CA to go to school! However, I see that Sarah's love for all things snow remains intact. Happy to read that your power has been restored, and hope that another post will be forthcoming. I need my Girotti fix!

Love seeing your lovely snow. Slightly envious... it was in the upper 80's here in Texas this weekend, cool down this week, but still highs in the 50's. Spring is coming, but sometimes I wonder if winter just missed ever getting to us down here.
I took time to complete a project for National Quilt Day, posted picture on Sunday since it had been so long since I got anything quilty done :)
