From The Word

  • I Peter 5:8-11
Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a "roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour: Whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world. But the God of all grace, who hath called us unto his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a while, make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle you. To him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.

Chris

You have some beautiful ornaments!! We too have a tradition of making or purchasing an ornament for each of the children each year. Some years the kids have made ornaments and some years I have purchased one that reminds me of them. As the older ones have married and begun their families they have taken their box of ornaments with them. LOTS of memories packied in those boxes!!!

Well I actually crossed off 5 words today!! You did better at picking words today Sarah! :) lol See you tomorrow morning!

Melissa

Awesome, I am averaging one word a day. ;-P

As you have seen, we have lots of ornaments from many years of collecting. I buy new ones to add every year and with three trees there are plenty of places to hang them. :)

This is my Christmas tree story. Our family tradition has always been to go out to dinner as a family, and then, afterward, go and buy the tree. Over the weekend, our two college-aged kids (the only ones of ten still @ home) declared that Monday (yesterday)would be a good day to buy the tree. We decided on a Chinese restaurant, and went to our old stomping grounds, Costco, for the tree. My husband and daughter picked out the tree while I got the car. We ended up buying a tree from the 6-7' category, and put it in our small SUV. It looked rather thin--the thinnest that we've ever bought--but my husband said that it was the best of the lot, since there were only about 20 trees in that category. (They have more shipments coming, I guess.) In any case, my husband unfurled the tree when we got home, and while it looks better than Charlie Brown's, I was incensed @ spending over 35 bucks for a tree that has big gaps between the branches, etc. We have it in the stand, and it's got the tiniest, most pathetic trunk you ever did see. I called Costco, and was told that we could bring it back, which is an unattractive proposition, since hauling a tree around isn't my idea of a good time. And, given that our kids are busy w/life, and my husband and I need to get into the rafters for the decorations, it may just sit undecorated for a few days. BUT, we had a great time @ dinner w/lots of laughs, and good stories, so the evening wasn't a complete bust. And, one of the best parts of the story is that there were tons of leftovers, so it looks like I'm off the hook for tonight.

Oh, and I got a measly two words today...I suggest you step it up, Sarah, or I'm going to have to drop out...or find a way to cheat...

BTW, your Christmas ornaments are very cool. I doubt that we'll even be able to hang all the ornaments we have (@ least 100) on our branch that is masquerading as a tree! Yep, I'm pretty bitter. Bah humbug.

Victoria

Poor Cathy. Didn't you see the news that Costco had more than a 1,000 Christmas trees stolen this year? May have been the reason for the dismal pickings. Try and fix up what you have and recapture your Christmas spirit. :)

We started collecting ornaments when we were first married.Sadly one day our cat climbed and knocked over the tree breaking some of them.

I forgot to mention the light display at Life University in Marietta is a good one to see

We love the Muppets Christmas Carol & watch it every year! I gave my children an ornament every Christmas that had something to do with that year in their lives. When my sons married, I packaged them up in a Christmas box and gave them to their wives as a gift. They loved it & I never told my kids I was doing that! Sarah will box hers up to take to her own home one day. I did keep their "baby's first Christmas" (for now)...couldn't part with that memory! The tour looked like fun! So happy for you & Eric! 🎄

Cathy

I'm trying, Victoria...but, it's hard when your DIL won't pick the words that I have on my list! It's almost as though she's sabatoging me. Anyway, I'll get into the Christmas spirit when I get some more words.

Hey, we're celebrating Jesus...and that doesn't get any better! BUT, I still wanna win!
