Knowing Sarah was getting married and moving all of her furniture to Georgia, I began scheming back in the fall and was planning on making her old bedroom into my new sewing room!
Haha! Unfortunately, the joke's on me!
Sarah's empty room can't become my new sewing room until all of the kitchen cabinets that are going in Jonathan's house are finished...yes, that's right, Sarah's old room is where six of the 25 cabinets Tom is building are now awaiting varnishing (inside) and painting (outside).
But the good news is my living room actually gets a break from woodworking!
Here's only a small portion of the cabinets. My job and Hannah's is to paint these as soon as we can so another batch can be brought inside as they're built. But actually, I spoke too soon. I drafted the first part of this post awhile back, and over the weekend four additional cabinets were brought inside...and they did land in my living room! Ackkk!
Tom has become a lean, mean, cabinet-building machine! Here he is in his make-do workshop inside our garage:
One day, hopefully by spring, I'll be able to set up my own craft room....once those cabinets are out of Sarah's room and installed in Jonathan's house (speaking of which....I need to do a house update in the next few weeks. The house-building has been a long, slow process, but soon it will be time to paint the walls!).
Here's an idea...maybe the lean, mean, cabinet-making machine can build me some cabinets for my sewing space!
Follow along and see what happens in the coming months!

Good for you, Deb! A sewing room for all your crafty endeavors will be so nice. Looking forward to the house update.
Have a great week!

Oh I would Love a sewing room! Right now Danielle and I each have a sewing machine in our bedrooms. Does Jonathan have heat in his house? Winter can sure make projects difficult!

Loved this post! Made me giggle as I thought of you seeing all those cabinets in YOUR sewing room and YOUR living room! :) LOL It will make the day you actually start sewing in there all the more sweeter! :) Such a kind mama to paint those cabinets instead of sew! ;)

So many cabinets. The picture of the cabinets up against the couch look like a washer and dryer when you look real fast.
Tom reminds me of my dad making so many woodworking items.Keep it up Tom.I still have a table my dad made for us as a wedding gift.
Can't wait to see updates on the house.

I keep threatening that the first empty bedroom becomes my sewing room. :P Since our oldest is only 14 it may be a few years yet that my husband has to share his office with my library and sewing. I'd feel worse but for years there was a stack of lumber in my dining room euphemistically referred to as the "coat rack." You can probably envision what it usually looked like. :) I'm glad to know that our house isn't the only one where rooms are used in multiple ways. :)

You Girottis should ask over Kevin McCloud of Grand Designs. I think he'd be way impressed with the building of Jonathan's house.

What a great thing to wait for. When our last left her room became my sewing/office. I guess there is a bright side to the empty nest.

**Ana,
Thank you so much for the comment! Yes, marriage is a happy time...and even better when your children and grandchildren are close by to where you live. I’m very glad you are experiencing this and able to help teach your grandchildren. Maybe one day I will have grandchildren near me instead of many hours away! Thank you so much for your kind words.
Blessings,
Deb

Christopher's old room became mine when he got married. It also took awhile to get everything out but I now love having a room all my own! Enjoy. When the cabinets come out. 😊

Hang in there. You'll eventually get that sewing room, and Jonathan will eventually get all those cabinets too. Tom seems to be very hard at work. Look forward to seeing the finished result.

Hi Deb! It sounds like you all had a very special Christmas! It's so nice to have people stop by to visit... Especially family! :) You and Hannah are brave to be helping with the finishing touches on the home improvement!! I always enjoyed helping my dad with projects around the house... Now that my little brother Jimmy is into his teens, he is such a great help that I am off the hook most of the time (phew!). :) A nice sewing room sounds perfect for a quilting... Hope Hannah and Granny are feeling much better. Happy new year!

Ha! Ha! That's too funny, especially because when we where there last you were excitedly telling us about your "new" sewing location! Hopefully you'll get your sewing room soon!
Blessings,
Kelsey
