It seems like it's becoming a tradition!
Last May when I was away in Atlanta helping Sarah get ready for new baby Matthew, the family here at Mountain Musings hosted two ice cream socials for the Landmark Events Tour group. You can read about that in last year's post here.
This year we again invited the group to stop by after their tour day. Here's our Welcome Sign on our front porch to greet the tour as they arrived:
Of course, the sign greeted my sister, Aunt Bet, too, because she was arriving the same day and bringing fresh strawberries from South Carolina! Yum! We all set about cutting them up as soon as she came in the door! She brought 12 pounds of berries as we were expecting around 35 folks from the tour plus the six of us. Aunt Bet, Granny, Hannah, and I worked to get them ready in time: Here's Jonathan talking with Kevin Turley, the Coordinator of Landmark Events Tours. He has been a good friend, and we always enjoy being a part of his tours across the country: Here I am dipping for our guests....chocolate, vanilla, or peach...with lots of different toppings, including those delicious strawberries!: The folks were from Tennessee, Missouri, Virginia, and Oklahoma....folks we had never met! Here are some of them in our living room enjoying fellowship and ice cream, as the rainy forecast prevented our usual gathering on the deck: And taken from a different angle, you can spot Tom talking with Bill Potter, the historian for the tour, upper right: Jake, the young guy on the right below, told us he was really looking forward to visiting Polyface, Joel Salatin's farm that's part of the tour: This was the perfect time to use my popsicle quilted banner as decoration from my friend, Chris:
And here's all our crew at the end of the night as we debriefed each other on various conversations held and about the folks we met. The next day the tour continued on to New Market Battlefield and hopefully they developed closer friendships with each other after having gotten acquainted in our home: So...if you're traveling through the Shenandoah Valley, you know there's ice cream to be served up if you're near Mountain Musings!
Come and get it!
