Works in Progress Wednesday ~ Daisies & Blockheads 3

Well, good things are happening in the sewing room! I've had another week of extra sewing time...what did I do to deserve this luxury?!

Yes, Miss Hannah volunteered to continue kitchen duty for another week, and I've so enjoyed not only this sewing time but also all the delicious new recipes she's cooked for us!

Since last Wednesday I've made 14 of the Daisy Sew Along blocks...here are the first 7 from last week: And here are this week's next 7 blocks below:

Here are all 14 up on the design wall--it gives you an idea of the view from my work area...watching them multiply certainly encourages me to keep going. There will be 25 blocks: So once I completed the daisy blocks assignment, I started the Moda Blockheads 3 Sew-Along. I'm following along with Joanna's version over at Fig Tree Quilts and using the red and cream for each week's block. I was able to catch up this week and made all 6 blocks. Here are the first 5: And up on the design wall they will go:

And here's this week's 6th block I finished in time tonight to write this Works in Progress post and to add to the grouping: Now I'm caught up, so I'm taking a sewing room break for a few days. I'm very satisfied with what's gotten accomplished. Yay, progress!

Work in Progress Wednesday

I've had some extra sewing time this week, compliments of Hannah tackling all things kitchen and cooking for me! I love when this week rolls around each year!

There was quite a bit of cutting involved before I could even get started...think 400 tiny squares, 200 rectangles, 100 rectangles...and that's not even counting the stacks of 200 daisy petals!

The fabric is from a quilt kit put together by Handmade is Heartmade fabric shop, and they did a terrific job with selecting the colors! The pattern is by Pen and Paper Patterns.The Daisy Sew-Along is in full swing, and today I finished the first 7 blocks out of 25....which was this week's assignment.

Here I am in my happy place, my sewing room. I love all the quilty goodness surrounding me....

I'll post a bunch of daisy blocks soon, but you can see the first couple of pink daisies in the foreground.

I'm also just starting to work this week on the Moda Blockheads 3 blocks. I'm a little behind as 4 blocks are already posted on the designers' sites.

Here's my red and cream fabric bundle that I will be using and cutting into from Fig Tree Quilts. Isn't it just too beautiful to cut? (photo by Fig Tree)

Thirdly, the Clover pattern I mentioned in the previous post by Cluck, Cluck Sew will be sewn in all greens, another beautiful kit of green fabrics put together by Handmade is Heartmade. That one would be perfect to work on in March if I can get these other two sew-alongs under control.

So now you can picture me working away in the sewing room. Next Wednesday I'll post another Work in Progress with hopefully a lot of blocks completed!

Sunday Night Hymn Sing

Our nightly family devotional times consist of Tom alternating reading each evening after supper from either...

1) a book in the Bible (right now we've just finished Thessalonians and started on John).

2) Voices from the Past, daily devotional readings written by Puritans (do names like Stephen Charnock, Thomas Manton, David Clarkson, Thomas Brooks, John Bunyan, and Jonathan Edwards sound familar?).

3) Evening by Evening by Charles H. Spurgeon, a classic daily devotional that's been an encouragement to millions for over 150 years, and one that I've been reading for over 50 years!

But...Sunday evenings are a bit different. We get out the hymnals and sing around the table.

Granny seems to really enjoy it and likes to pick her favorite old-time hymns (I'd Rather Have Jesus was tonight's choice) when it's her turn to call a number: Here's Hannah singing tonight, and she picked Children of the Heavenly Father...you can read the lyrics and hear it sung here on youtube. Tom's selection was a song that he'll be teaching the folks at church to sing in four-part harmony soon...The Lord is My Shepherd. Jonathan sometimes serenades us with his guitar playing on Sunday evenings, but he wasn't available tonight. We missed him.

Just thought I would check in tonight on the blog and wish all of you a Happy Valentine's week coming up.

As in years past, Hannah's giving me the best gift ever this whole week! She's planning special meals for the family each night, and I get a break from cooking!

I'm looking forward to using the extra time to cut some fabric for an online sew-along I joined. And thinking of these blockheads 3 quilt blocks here. And this clover quilt too. I will be busy!
